Uchi Houston Menu Hot Rock Beef
-
Machi cure & hamachi nabe were fantastic! Never had anything like it before, excellent food & worth the money. Hama chili, zero sen roll and unagi sushi were great as well. Skip the spicy tuna roll.
-
When executive chef and owner Tyson Cole first opened shop in 2003, Uchi instantly became both a sushi and a fine-dining game changer. Quality and craft still out of this world. Reservations a must.

One of our austin absolute faves. Happy hour is insane: market hand rolls / nigiri, crispy rice cake with hamachi, bluefin miso, foie gunkin all insane. Everything is affordable , including the wines.
-
Great sushi spot with excellent prepared and hot dishes as well. Shag roll, flank steak, scallops sushi, yellowtail bowl all fantastic. Everything was great really. no liquor tho!
-
Best dishes: uchiviche, Hama chili, kobai berry, hamachi nabe. Always order 2-3 pieces off specials menu and ask server about the raw specials. Skip omakase, get lemon gelato. Tip: raw > cooked dishes
-
Flounder Sashimi (not in the menu) was suggested to us by our waiter John to go with our Chardonnay 👌🏻 Amber Jack Sashimi with Pine Nuts, also fabulous! Hotate is what is in the picture was amazing!
-
One of the tastiest places in the city. Go during happy hour to go easy on your wallet and get the yellow fish, pork belly, and salmon collar. Best brussel sprouts too. You won't regret it!
-
No doubts.. One of the best Japanese restaurants food and service on earth. Get Sakana Carpaccio, Zero Sen and Biendo and you will be the happiest one ever! || 9.5/10 (.5 for not having fresh juices)
-
Come after receiving a large check from work. The freshness and quality of food and service is one of a kind. We were blown away by the experience. Hot rock dishes were our favorite.
-
One of THE most amazing places ever I ate at. They have a vegetarian / vegan menue with lots of creative options of which each and every single one is absolutely bomb!!! 💚💚💚🌱🌱🌱
-
Everything is so fresh and exquisitely executed. My taste buds dance every time I think of this place. The walu walu, hot rock beef, hamachi...even the foie gras sushi - can't wait to go again!
-
Packed during midweek happy hour. Great service, limited list of sake (on happy hour) & general Japanese dishes outside of sushi. Nice place but prefer Kome to price & food options.
-
For sure, ask your waiter what to order (if you are real sushi fans) favorite things were machi cure, and the hamachi nabe. So good I wanted to cry. All suggestions from the sushi chefs. *PERFECTION*
-
Excellent Japanese restaurant with incredibly good sushi. Try the machi cure, hamachi nabe and do not miss the foie gras sushi.
-
Make an early reservation to irder off their happy hour menu featuring many of the most popular dishes at unbelievably low prices ($3 carafe of sake with fois nigiri and wagyu...yes please).
-
Everything is good here. Service & Brussels sprouts stand out. The 5:00-6:30 Sake Social is not only the best sushi value, but the best fine dining value I have ever found.
-
If you have only one restaurant to eat at in Austin, make it Uchi. Chef Tyson Cole puts out Japanese food like you've never had – inventive, fun, immensely addictive. -Monica Pope, Top Chef
-
Making a reservation way ahead of time is important or get ready to wait almost 1-2 hours for a table. The wait was worth it, though! The Norwegian mackerel sushi is a must try.
-
One of the best meals I've had in my life. These guys know their fish - everything is so creative and delicious! Favs - hamachi with orange and chili, and spicy scallops roll. Get PB&J for dessert!
-
It's almost worth a trip to Austin just to dine here. Probably the best sushi I've ever had. I recommend arriving when they open, and arrive hungry.
-
my top 3 favorites are 1) machi cure 2) brie ringo 3) crudo...and the lemon dessert! John is also the best waiter! I can't visit Austin without stopping here at least once.
-
The rumors are true it's the best sushi I've had in a long time. Unique combinations without feeling trendy and fresh fish and solid service. Can't wait to go back.
-
You'll never see sushi the same again. Go hungry but not too hungry cause the wait is long but the experience is worth every bite! Call ahead and see if they have any reservations available though.
-
"When you're lucky enough to find a seat at the sushi bar... order the 10-course tasting menu. Get insights from the sushi chefs to truly appreciate each course. A foodies delight!"
-
Avo Bake, Bacon Steakie, Sake Toro Sashimi, and the Hamachi Nabe are must try's! Also show up around 4:45 if you don't have a reservation so you don't have to wait for over an hour.
-
One of the best meals I've ever had. Get there early for the 5-6:30 happy hour menu, and finish with the foie gras sushi.
-
The best Austin has to offer. The 5-7 social hour is the best way to sample everything on the menu.
-
get there early - like real early if you don't want to wait. but if you don't mind waiting the outside patio is a cool spot to hang out and have a drink while you wait for your table.
-
I had amazing raw fish, wagyu beef fried on hot rocks, a wonderful coconut cocktail and top service overall.
-
The food quality, ingenuity and service were worthy of a Michelin star had this been in a covered market. Every course was exceptional, which is unbelievable.
-
Wait ~1.5-2hrs, but took 1hr on Fri: arrived@6,seated@7,3ppl. While u wait: try Asahi Black & app Shishito peppers, not spicy. Dinner: Maguro w/goat cheese, Shag roll, Biendo. Dessert: Jizake Caramel.
-
Some of the best raw fish I've had (no "in Texas" caveat required). Check out the daily menu. And definitely get a "machi cure" and a "hama chili". Fantastic.
-
"Tyson Cole is the patriarch of the Austin food scene, and 13 years in, Uchi is still one of the great Japanese restaurants in the country." - Peter Jon Lindberg Read more
-
Great place to take a date if you really want to impress them. Nice atmosphere and great sushi! I recommend the hotate! It has a little bit of everything sushi should be!
-
Do the Omakase 6-course signature menu+hot rock and enjoy the ride to the heaven. Chocolate candy bar as a dessert is a must!
-
Best restaurant in Austin. Shag roll is a highlight. The desserts are unbelievable. Not cheap though but pretty good happy hour from 5:00-6:30.
-
Amazing vegetarian/vegan menu. If you are staying downtown just a quick scooter ride away!

Arguably the best restaurant in Austin. Japanese food and American service, the best of both, made for a relaxed and delicious experience.
-
The walu walu is really good, like a steak, but it is escolar. The jizake creme caramel dessert looks really good going by us every 5 minutes
-
I don't know if I would call this Japanese. The sashimi comes out with various sauces on them, covering the fishes flavor. They do have some good sake choices. The wine selection was lacking.
-
What a great place. Try the hot stone dishes, scallops or wagyame beef to fry on a hot stone on your table. Fantastic tastes.
-
Fantastic food, if the belt fish is on the menu definitely try it, if you aren't driving there have a game plan ahead for a cab!
-
If you're not getting at least one Shag roll, then you have no business here. It is to die for! As well as the Hama Chili & Biendo and Zero Sen rolls. I wish I could eat here everyday.
-
If you can afford it, GO. One of the best meals I've had in my life. Get the Tempura Brie, the perfect fusion of French and Asian. Ugh foodgasm
-
Sake Social Hour is a treat. Brief but worth it. As for food, the bacon steakie and the Hama chili are a great choice!
-
If you're a vegetarian, they gave you covered. They'll mirror their meat dishes with a veg version. Besides, the best thing on the menu is the vegetarian avocado sushi.
-
Fish is fresh, food is delicious and service is impeccable. Get the Brussel sprouts, Hama chili, crudo and zero sen. Ask the waiter for recommendations.
-
The fois gras sushi is the best sushi in Austin, which is why it's on our list of The Tastes That Make the City: Austin. Read more
-
Food is on par with most international favorites. Try the blue fin/uni/caviar. Staff is kind but the restaurant has not figured out yet how to manage a rush of people at 5pm.There HAS to be an answer
-
Favorite. All fish flown in daily. Austin local secret - go for happy hour at 5pm and pay almost nothing for most famous items on the menu
